Cook County Legal Aid for Housing and Debt (CCLAHD) is a county-wide initiative providing free legal assistance to residents facing eviction, foreclosure, consumer debt, and tax deed issues. Through our two major programs, we offer comprehensive support to renters, landlords, homeowners, and anyone dealing with debt challenges—at no cost to you.
All services are available to Cook County residents regardless of income, language, or immigration status.
How We Can Help You
Early Resolution Program
The Early Resolution Program (ERP) provides free legal help for renters facing eviction, small landlords dealing with eviction-related issues, and individuals with consumer debt challenges or past-due property taxes. The ERP connects participants with legal aid, mediation services, and referrals to additional programs, such as rental assistance, to help avoid unnecessary evictions or debt judgments.
- Call ERP (855) 956-5763 for assistance
Mortgage Foreclosure Mediation Program
The Mortgage Foreclosure Mediation Program (MFMP) provides free legal assistance to homeowners facing foreclosure. Services include access to a helpline, housing counseling, legal advice, mediation, and referrals to other assistance programs. The MFMP is open to all homeowners of 1-4 unit residential properties in Cook County whose primary residence is in foreclosure.
